Native Lady, 28”x28” This
quilt was done using a dye painting process and was heavily quilted
using rayon threads. |
 |
Mixed Fruit, 32”x32” This
is also a dye painted quilt. The goal here was to take a 2 dimensional
piece and make it 3 dimensional using the thread embellishment. The
neon thread highlights help greatly in achieving this goal. |
 |
Regal Elk, 28”x38” This
quilt was created using acrylic paints and was an auction item at
a National Bowhunters Association national convention fund raising
event. |
 |
Resting Place, 36”x 45”
Bob Shepherd of Ovando, MT, took the photo that was the inspiration
for this piece. Bob was hiking in the mountains near his home when
he looked up and saw this mountain lion resting in a tree not 12’
from him. |
 |
Diana, 28”x 35” I took
the photo that served as the inspiration for this quilt at a local
Pow Wow in the Bitterroot Valley of western Montana. From the Northern
Cheyenne tribe out of Lame Deer, MT, Diana, then 3 years old, and
her family were here to join in the celebration and to dance. The
children played with our Dalmatian, Cheyenne, when they were not dancing. |

Mountain Spirits, We Were There, 36”x45”
This quilt was made as a tribute to the ancestors and animals who
were here before us. The mountain lion’s face is hand-layered
appliqué, the image just below that is of a Native American,
and the bottom of the quilt features silhouette appliqués of
2 lions on a ledge overlooking a lake. Private Collection of Terry
Ryan, Hamilton, MT. |

Red Arm Panther, 40”X50”
The inspiration photo for this piece was taken by a post photographer
at an Army post in the 1800s. Red Arm Panther was a member of the
Cheyenne tribe and was an Army scout at the time of the photo. This
is painted with water based acrylic paints. |
 |
Winter Refuge, 36”x 30”
A very old calendar photo was the inspiration for this quilt. The
photographer and the date the photo was taken were not available. |
 |
Racehorse, 30”x28” This
quilt was painted by one of my students. Due to failing eyesight,
she was unable to quilt it so I finished for her. She and her husband
use to raise and run racehorses, and I am just happy that she now
has her quilt. |
