Pure Country Quilts - Hand Quilting

Snowball-9 patch Snowball-9 patch, 55”x62” This quilt was hand pieced and hand quilted in ‘the old way’, which is a folk art technique called “Promise Stitch”. This technique originated in the southern Appalachian Mountains in the 1800’s and is slave influenced by those slaves fleeing to the north and given sanctuary by the mountain people. There is nothing written on the technique….the ‘promise’ is to keep the technique alive by passing it from person to person.
Freedom Quilt

Freedom Quilt, 30”x36” This is a hand pieced and hand quilted piece using the “Promise Stitch” technique which originated in the southern Appalachian Mountains and is slave influenced. The mountain people gave sanctuary to those fleeing slavery in the southern United Stated as they fled north.

Sampler, 30”x30” This hand quilted sampler utilizes several different marking and hand quilting techniques.
Black Eyed Susan, 28”x32” This is one of Carol Armstrong’s wonderful patterns. Carol traditionally uses solid fabrics for her hand appliqué and I chose to use more textured fabric.
