Snowball-9 patch, 55”x62” This quilt
was hand pieced and hand quilted in ‘the old way’, which
is a folk art technique called “Promise Stitch”. This
technique originated in the southern Appalachian Mountains in the
1800’s and is slave influenced by those slaves fleeing to the
north and given sanctuary by the mountain people. There is nothing
written on the technique….the ‘promise’ is to keep
the technique alive by passing it from person to person. |

piece using the “Promise Stitch” technique which originated

Black Eyed Susan, 28”x32” This is
one of Carol Armstrong’s wonderful patterns. Carol traditionally
uses solid fabrics for her hand appliqué and I chose to use
more textured fabric. |
