The background for this quilt was made in a class I
took from Jan Krentz in 2002 utilizing a pieced diamond technique
that results in a ‘Monet” look. After having made the
background, I decided it definitely needed to be a pond themed quilt.
The Snowy Egret was the first focus of the quilt, and the rest evolved
from there with really no ‘structured’ pattern at hand.
As each element was added, I would then determine what next needed
to be done. Techniques used in making this quilt include fusible appliqué,
free motion embroidered pond critters that were later appliquéd
to the quilt, couching for special effects, and multiple embellishments,
as well as free motion machine quilting. This quilt has won first
place at local quilt shows and has been submitted to the International
Quilt Festival at Houston for possible acceptance in the 2003 show. |
