PRINCE CHARMING, 32”32” This all started with
the toad! My friend, Mary Jones, in Texas believes if you kiss enough
toads, you will get Mel Gibson! I made the toad and she felt he needed
an environment. Working from a sketch that I had drawn, I put together
a garden environment for the toad and his friends, the hummingbirds
and the bees. These were all free motion embroidered and appliquéd
to the quilt. The Thimbleberries blossoms, the Mountain Columbine
flowers, the rocks, stream, and log were fusible web appliquéd,
and the vines were done by making bias strips and stitching them down
by machine to create texture. The leaves on the vine were made 3 dimensional
using fusible web and florist wire stitched into the leaves, making
them positionable. Under one of the center leaves, there is an ‘intruder’
in the garden….my kitty, Brindle, who is surveying the scene
in front of her with great curiosity. I machine quilted this, stitching
in more leaves and foliage into the background and stitching in detail
on all elements that needed texture. |
